The Life Of An Author

Do you have what it takes to be an author? Let's find out!

The life of an aspiring author is not glamorous. It is not easy. It is hard work - a roller coaster filled with its own ups and downs. From writer's block to rejection letters, being an author can be tough and painful. You can pour your heart and soul into something you feel is amazing, and learn that it's something people don't care about or even want to read.

But remember... that's okay! Everyone is entitled to their opinion and critiques. Being an author requires thick skin when it comes to constructive criticism or any criticism at all. This piece of art may be your baby and you should be proud no matter what, but if it's not everyone's cup of tea, accept it and move forward. Don't try to make something work if it doesn't. Find something new to work on. Find something that inspires you. Find something that brings you out of your comfort zone and requires you to return to your passionate nature.

DO NOT GET DISCOURAGED.

Like anything in life, becoming an author is not simple. It requires self-discipline, organization and determination. It requires time and imagination. Everyone is capable of this. Everyone is capable of bringing something new to life. You have the ability to open someone's mind to a world you create, regardless of the genre. You can bring a new perspective or spin on an idea. You have the power to produce something different and in doing so, you may find that you impact people in a way you would never expect.

Thinking back to six years ago - when I first began this adventure - I was eighteen years old with nothing published under my belt. But I wrote five books - five! - before my first one was published. It is difficult to face rejection, especially at a young age, but it is important to overcome it. Continue with what you love! It will inspire those around you. In learning what I was trying to accomplish, family members began digging in to their own creative roots or going back to things they thought were lost. (Re)Igniting their passion and imagination led to a creative fire that spread quickly. More and more people around us were taking strides towards their passions.

How amazing is that?

In pursuing a career as an author or any artistic passion, you can change more than you realize.

So I commend all of you,
change the world... create your own.
